Previously, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the <a href=\"http:\/\/parkslab.syr.edu\">lab<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/parkslab.syr.edu\/people.html\">Susan Parks<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/biology.syr.edu\">Department of Biology<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.syr.edu\">Syracuse University<\/a>.\u00a0My research focuses on the impact of man-made noise on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, and ways of analyzing the soundscape in these environments. I carried out my doctoral research at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bath.ac.uk\">University of Bath<\/a>, UK, on methods of characterizing noise exposure from shipping.\u00a0My interests include vocal behavior, acoustic partitioning in community ecology, analysis of big data from long-term monitoring, and ship noise assessment incorporating <a href=\"http:\/\/www.marinetraffic.com\/\">AIS ship-tracking data<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=IqY7G7-fUmc\u200e\">time-lapse footage<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I lead the Noise and Bioacoustics team\u00a0at the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) in the UK.
